Buying Fine Wine

We have a great selection of fine wine available to buy. Our fine wines come from all over the world including, but not exclusively, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire, Rhone and Champagne in France, Port from Portugal, Super Tuscans from Italy and many parts of the southern hemisphere. See here for our Fine Wine section.

Duty Paid Wines

These are wines that have already had the Duty paid, and are currently lying in our warehouse at Moor Park. If you buy Duty Paid wine the Duty and VAT are part of the total price.

Lying Abroad Wine

All wine sold En Primeur is Lying Abroad. This means that you pay for the wine itself when you place an order, and the Duty, VAT and delivery costs (click here for our charges) when it is shipped to the UK and you want to take physical delivery of the wine. If you leave your wine In Bond when it lands in the UK you don’t pay the Duty or the Vat, you only pay this when it is released from Bond. We suggest wine for investment is kept In Bond.

Cellar Management

An Investment Cellar - An investment portfolio of wines that are not intended to be drunk, are kept In Bond and eventually traded.

A Drinking Cellar - Wines that are generally taken out of bond, delivered to the buyer who drinks them.

A Working Cellar - Part investment, part drinking, with a well-managed working cellar, ten years of wise buying could provide free drinking for the rest of your life. Buying two cases of a given wine, En-Primeur or ex cellars, gives you the option to sell one later and re-invest in younger wine or use the profit to pay for the case you wish to drink, in theory this means that you drink for free.
