Tempranillo is a variety of black grape widely grown to make full-bodied red wines originating from Spain. It is the main grape used in Rioja, and is often referred to as Spain's noble grape. It grows best at relatively high altitudes, but it also can tolerate a much warmer climate. Tempranillo wines are ruby red in colour, while aromas and flavours can include berries, plum, tobacco, vanilla, leather, and herb. The grape is now grown across the world and is extensively grown in Argentina and Chile.
