Viognier is a white grape variety originated in the Northern Rhône. Viogner wines are well known for their floral aromas. There also many other powerful fruit aromas which can be identified in these wines depending on where they were grown, the weather conditions and how old the vines were. Viognier grapes must be picked at optimum ripeness. If they are harvested too early and are under-ripe, the resulting wine can be thin, dilute and unbalanced and if harvested too late the wine will lack the grape’s distinctive peach and honeysuckle aroma.
