Conti Costanti
Conti Costanti
The Costanti’s are an old Sienese family who have owned the Colle al Matrichese estate for over 200 years. Current proprietor, Andrea Costanti, took over from his uncle in the 1983 inheriting a winery with a reputation for creating some of the most distinguished Brunello di Montalcino. Nevertheless, Andrea was up to the challenge and has worked tremendously hard to not only maintain, but improve Conti Costanti’s reputation as one of the best producers in the region. The 10-hectare estate is situated to the east of Montalcino village (near Casanova di Neri) where vines are grown at altitudes rising to 400m, making them some of the highest in the appellation. The friable galestro rock soil is particularly suited to producing top-quality Sangiovese, especially when in combination with the varying degrees of elevation and optimal east-southeast exposure. Not one for fleeting trends or turning his back on tradition, Andrea has always aspired to produce complex and intense wines that need time to mature, however, in doing so reveal themselves as exceptionally sophisticated and highly sought after wines.
