Argiano

Established in 1580, (Tenuta di) Argiano boasts a rich and illustrious history as one of the oldest estates in the region and a founding member of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino. The Brazilian financier, André Esteves, purchased the property from Countess Noemie Marone Cinzano in 2013 and extensive investment and development in both the vineyards and cellar have been undertaken in the quest for further greatness, all under the watchful eye of Head Winemaker and CEO. Bernardino Sani. Located to the southwest of Montalcino between the village of Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Angelo Scalo, Argiano own 50-hectares of prime, south-facing vineyards on the plateau, making them a formidable producer in the appellation. Nevertheless, there is no compromise on quality thanks to the mapping of their vineyards into six separate zones by famed Chilean terroir consultant Pedro Parra, to the introduction of organic viticulture as well as the creation of ultra-modern facilities in a new, custom built winery producing multi-layered, balanced, and elegant wines with a true sense of place.

Tuscany

Gone are the days when Tuscany's global wine exports were limited to wicker-bottomed bottles of cheap Chianti that graced every neighbourhood Italian restaurant from New Jersey to Manchester. Modern Tuscany is a large, diverse region and the beauty of its rolling landscapes and charming nature pulls in the tourists year after year. Red wines of every quality are its vinous calling cards but large quantities of crisp, flavoursome whites and honeyed, sweet wines are also present. The warm Mediterranean climate is a significant factor in Tuscany's consistent ability to produce excellent grapes, thanks to the warm days and cool nights that help the wines get the right balance of sweetness and acidity. Italy's most important red grape, Sangiovese, is right at home in Tuscany and is the backbone of Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Around Bolgheri, the famously expensive 'Super Tuscans' have their home and producers such as Antinori and Sassicaia make their famous wines from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes.

Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino is one of the great Italian red wines and hails from the Tuscany region. Brunello means ‘little brown one’ and refers to the skin of the grape which is a clone of Sangiovese. The Climate here is warm and dry and the grapes are grown on the steep slopes surrounding the medieval walled city of Montalcino. The wines are high in acidity and tannins and often require further aging in the bottle to soften and develop richer more complex flavours and a smoother texture. Typical Brunello has aromas of red and black cherries, plums, olive, spice which continue onto the palate with underlying earthiness, subtle balsamic notes and a long finish.

Red Blend

Red blended wines are created around the world from a multitude of grapes and are often focused on local varieties. Well-blended red wines should make use of complementary varieties, that balance each other well. Cabernet Sauvignon often plays a major part, as does Syrah and Pinot Noir. Australia makes excellent wines from Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, known as GSMs. Portuguese red blends typically rely on inky Touriga Nacional, and in Argentina, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon are good friends.
