2008 Bordeaux En Primeur Update June 2009

2008 Bordeaux En Primeur Update June 2009

2008 in our view is a good vintage without being exceptional. The general consensus in the trade was to try and talk the vintage down as the prices needed to be good value for the campaign to work in these difficult economic conditions. This worked at first with the some of first growths (Latour, Lafite and Mouton Rothschild) releasing at half the price of the 2007's. Then Robert Parker (world's No.1 wine critic) released his report….

“All the qualities that make an excellent and in some cases, a great vintage so special: exceptionally dark opaque colours, gorgeously ripe fruit, stunning purity almost across the board, great freshness, slightly higher acids than normal, and remarkable density as well as concentration." Robert Parker

He also mentioned that some of the wines may be as good as 2005 and 2000 but we believe this is over-rated and should be taken with a pinch of salt – BCFW rating for the vintage is 8/10.
