Antinori: Tignanello Toscana IGT 2018 Released

Antinori: Tignanello Toscana IGT 2018 Released

We are delighted to announce that we have received our allocation for another of the years' highly-anticipated Super Tuscan releases: Tignanello Toscana IGT 2018.

Tignanello Toscana IGT is without a doubt one of the best-performing investment wines on the market and usually sells out globally within days of its release; a testament to the high-quality wine-making, sensible pricing, and continued increase in market demand.

Released at £435 IB (per 6x75cl), Vinous' Antonio Galloni has described it as 'a wine of breathtaking purity... impossibly silky and persistent, the 2018 is all class, all the way', and has awarded it 97 points. There are also many other fine estates in the Antinori portfolio, such as Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore, which has become one of the leading producers in Bolgheri thanks its unique micro climate and expertise in creating world class wines from Bordeaux blends. We have a small allocation of the 2018 vintage, priced at £455 IB per 6x75cl.

We are big fans of their other wines such as Tenuta Tignanello Chianti Classico Riserva 2018 (£165 IB per 6x75cl) and Tenuta Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Rosso 'Cont’Ugo' 2018 (£170 IB per 6x75cl), and believe they offer excellent value for money. Areas such as Barolo (Piedmont) and Brunello di Montalcino (Tuscany) continue to become more and more popular, especially in excellent vintages such as 2016. We have once again secured a small allocation of the single-vineyard Prunotto Barolo 'Bussia' 2016 (£285 IB per 6x75cl), as well as the Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2016 (195 IB per 6x75cl).

Please note that due to such high demand, there is limited availability and therefore Tignanello 2018 is sold on a strict allocation basis only. For availability of all wines, please contact the office on 01325 776446.

Tignanello Toscana IGTTignanello Toscana IGT

Tignanello Toscana IGT 2018 | £435 IB (6x75cl)

A blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc aged for 14 months in French and Hungarian oak. It is the flagship wine from the Tenuta Tignanello estate, which helped start the 'Super Tuscan' movement.

"The 2018 Tignanello is a wine of breathtaking purity. Impossibly silky and persistent, the 2018 is all class, all the way. In many ways, the 2018 reminds me of the 2004 because of its finesse, but it has an extra degree of nuance that reflects important strides that have been made at the estate in the intervening years. Winemaking today is more gentle, while new oak is also less intrusive. The result is a Tignanello that bristles with class. The purity of the flavors alone is mesmerizing. Bright red-toned berries, mocha, spice, cedar, new leather and liquorice are some of the many notes that linger on a fi nish framed by silky, perfectly ripe tannins."

97/100 points. Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

Tenuta Tignanello Chianti Classico RiservaTenuta Tignanello Chianti Classico Riserva

Tenuta Tignanello Chianti Classico Riserva 2018 | £165 IB (6x75cl)

The Tenuta Tignanello estate is located in the heart of the Chianti appellation and is of course famous for the wines of Solaia and Tignanello. Although the grapes for this Chianti Classico Riserva are taken from the same estate, it's difficult to call it a "mini Tignanello". However, we do believe it is a great introduction to the Marchesi Antinori portfolio!

"The density and polish to this is impressive with opulent, velvety tannins to the ripe fruit. A blue-fruit, lavender and mineral undertone to it. Flavorful and very long."

94-95/100 points. James Suckling

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri SuperioreGuado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore 2018 | £455 IB (6x75cl)

This project was a collaboration with Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta (of Tenuta San Guido - Sassicaia fame) until 1989. Guado al Tasso is regarded as one of the finest  "Super Tuscan" wines from Bolgheri; a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot.

"The seamless texture of ripe and polished tannins is very attractive already, and indicates a beautiful future for this young wine. Extremely long."

95-96/100 points. James Suckling

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Rosso "Cont'Ugo"Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Rosso "Cont'Ugo"

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Rosso "Cont'Ugo" 2018 | £170 IB (6x75cl)

The newest wine from the estate, which was first released in 2011. A powerful and complex wine made from 100% Merlot from a 40 hectare plot at the Guado al Tasso estate.

"The Guado al Tasso 2018 Bolgheri Rosso Cont'Ugo is a pure expression of Merlot from the Marchesi Antinori property in Bolgheri on the Tuscan Coast. This vintage is fragrant and bright with aromas that span from bold berry and raspberry to blue flower and dried mint. The aromas are lifted and bright, and to the palate, the wine delivers a graceful medium-bodied approach. This vintage delivers careful and streamlined appeal now in its youth, although it is surely poised to flesh out with time."

91/100 points. Monica Larner (Wine Advocate)

Prunotto Barolo "Bussia"Prunotto Barolo "Bussia"

Prunotto Barolo "Bussia" 2016 | £285 IB (6x75cl)

Antinori has been involved with Prunotto since 1989. The vineyard of Bussia is a 7-hectare site and one of the best single vineyards in the region thanks to its south-southwest exposure on loam-sandy Tortonian soils, producing elegant, ripe Barolos.

"Really extracted aromas of ripe strawberries with some cedar and tea undertones, following through to a medium body with round, creamy tannins and a wonderful finish of ripe strawberries and citrus peel, as well as a hint of honey. Subtle and refined. Better after 2022."

94/100 points. James Suckling

"Fragrant and refined, this focused red opens with alluring scents of iris, woodland berry, botanical herb and pipe tobacco. It’s vibrant and linear, featuring strawberry compote, raspberry and star anise framed in bright acidity and taut, polished tannins."

93/100 points. Kerin O'Keefe (Wine Enthusiast)

Pian delle Vigne Brunello di MontalcinoPian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino

Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2016 | £195 IB (6x75cl)

Owned by Antinori since 1995. The property is situated about 5km south of the town of Montalcino in the Orcia Valley on clay-gravel soils. Aged in large casks to create refined, and structured Brunellos.

"Cherry, plum and cedar aromas follow through to a medium to full body with integrated, polished tannins that are fine and pretty. Not the biggest Brunello from this vintage, but shows interest and focus. Try after 2023."

93/100 points. James Suckling

Please note prices quoted are In Bond (ex-Duty and VAT), per case as stated 6x75cl.
