Domaine Séguinot-Bordet is one of, if not the oldest producer in Chablis with records dating back to 1590. Located on the right bank of the River Serein in the commune of Maligny, they own a total of 20 hectares under vine; composed of 2.5 hectares of Petit Chablis, 16 hectares of Chablis, and just 1.5 hectares of Premier Cru Chablis.
We have just received a parcel of their superb 2019 wines; a vintage that Andy Howard MW reported on recently in Decanter stating that "the low-yielding Chablis 2019 vintage delivered highly-concentrated and complex wines with quality on show across all tiers and, while some are offering early drinking pleasure, others have long ageing potential." Furthermore, Louis Moreau, President of the Chablis Commission of the Burgundy wine board (BIVB), concurred declaring that in 2019 "we have been able to produce a top-quality vintage".
Jean-François Bordet (pictured), the youngest member of the family and head winemaker, places particular emphasis on obtaining the best fruit possible through careful winemaking practices that in turn produces vibrant, energetic, and luscious wines. Chablis 2019
Grapes come from southeastern facing vines near the village of Maligny. Grown on the iconic Kimmeridgian clay, which give the wines their classic flinty characteristics.
“A touch fuller and more concentrated (than Petit Chablis), with added exotic fruit. Wow – a ripe and juicy style with plenty of structure. There is an abundance of peach and apricot that intermingle with flinty minerality and a lovely saline touch edge. Very good indeed.
Chablis Premier Cru 'Fourchaume' 2019
Situated in the north of the appellation along the right bank of the River Serein, nestled in between the Premier Cru vineyards of ‘L’homme Mort’ and ‘Vaulorent’. Considered one of the best Premier Cru sites.
"Rich and tropical nose of lemon, apricot and wild honey. Impressive power and structure thanks to the further tropical fruits that fuse with toasty oak. Juicy acidity gives plenty of freshness and direction."
Chablis Grand Cru 'Vaudésir' 2019
The pinnacle of the range and comes from 40-65-year-old vines grown on a south/south-east-facing plot tucked away in a sheltered valley with a clay/Kimmeridgian-limestone soil. One of the 7 Grand Cru climats in Chablis.
"Forward, ripe nose of lemon citrus with added peach and apricot with hints of tropical fruits. Serious power and concentration with skyscraper length. Rich tropical fruit core of mango and pineapple that intertwines with toasted almond and uplifting, vibrant acidity.”
