Throughout its 130 year history, La Rioja Alta has often been referred to as the ultimate benchmark for traditional Rioja, known worldwide for their sensational, age-worthy, and great value Reserva and Gran Reserva wines.
We are therefore delighted to once again offer the estates' latest release of their flagship wine: Viña Ardanza Reserva 2015. This is another excellent Reserva that Head Winemaker, Julio Saénz, described in a conversation with the President of La Rioja Alta, Guillermo de Aranzabal, as "one of the best vintages in our history... it takes you back to back to the classic Viña Ardanzas. What I would highlight most about this Viña Ardanza 2015, is that it may well have the greatest cellaring potential of all...". Furthermore, I spoke to Julio recently and he told me "Viña Ardanza 2015 is perhaps one of the best vintages in the last few years; it had a perfect growing season (especially for the Garnacha) that was very much 'Atlantic' in character giving it great freshness and purity, as well as superb ageing potential."
Over the last 4 years we have built a strong following for La Rioja Alta's wines, and with good reason! Nevertheless, due to our limited allocation and anticipated high demand, order online now, or call me in the office on 01325 776446 to secure your case now!
Viña Ardanza Reserva 2015 | £26.99
The flagship wine from the property, which in 2015 comprises of 78% Tempranillo from Fuenmayor and Cenicero blended together with 22% Garnacha from the famous 'La Pedriza' vineyard in Tudelilla.
"A rich nose of raspberry, crushed strawberry, blueberry, coconut, cedar and sweet spice. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Creamy, balanced and layered with vibrant, spicy character. Long and polished. Drink or hold." 96/100 points. James Suckling
"Deep magenta. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe black raspberry, cherry cola, potpourri, tobacco and exotic spices, plus a smoky mineral flourish. Sweet and broad in the mouth, offering lush red and blue fruit, spicecake, mocha and coconut flavors that firm up on the back half. Finishes extremely long and spicy, with resonating florality, gently chewy tannins and lingering oak spice notes." Drink 2024-2034. 94/100 points. Josh Reynolds (Vinous)
"One of two vintages of Ardanza that are currently on the market, the 2015 is a cuvée of Tempranillo from Fuenmayor and Cenicero and 20% Garnacha from high altitude Tudelilla in the Rioja Oriental. Savoury and aromatic, with a slight animal note, this has raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, scented oak and sweet baking spices" Drink 2021-2027. 94/100 points. Tim Atkin MW
"The nose stands out for its power, a highly-complex blend of spicy and balsamic aromas of sweet liquorice, patisserie, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee and nutmeg, and notes of stewed red fruits. Outstanding balance, pleasant freshness and great structure in the mouth, with supple, round tannins. Very pleasant mouthfeel. An ample aftertaste of spicy notes, sweet liquorice and ripe fruit makes Viña Ardanza 2015 a timeless wine, with tremendous laying-down potential and one of the best vintages of the XXI."
