Margaux was our focus on the morning of our fifth day of the Bordeaux Marathon. Our first visit was to Chateau D'Issan where we also tasted Ch. Pedesclaux a little know Cru Classe in Pauillac but from first class terroir being neighbours to Mouton, Lafite and Pontet Canet. They have also recently invested in a state of the art, Gravity feed winery that makes Cos D'Estournel look seriously dated. A property to watch?
From D'Issan we headed to Palmer and then across the Road to Ch Margaux whose wines were excellent and their Pavillon Blanc was quite remarkable. Full of fruit yet with amazing freshness and acidity.
From Ch Margaux we went to the UGC Margaux tasting at Chateau Dauzac followed by a quick lunch before heading to the Cru Bourgeois tasting at Chateau Arsac where the wines were definitely the best since 2010. favourites were Deyrem Valentin (Margaux), Senejac, Loudenne, Beaumont to name a few.
We then headed to La Lagune for the UGC Sauternes tasting where we tasted Rieussac and Coutet as well as having a private tasting of La Lagune. Then it was a 45 minute drive to Pessac Leognan for a tasting at Haut Bailly before heading to the UGC tasting at Smith Haut Lafitte.
Just a half day of tasting tomorrow before I fly back. Haut Brion, Domaine de Chevalier and D'Yquem...
