Happy New year! To kick off 2024, we have introduced a new discovery case of no and low alcohol wines for you to discover. Whether you are doing ’Dry January’, ‘Veganuary’, reducing your alcohol intake or just want to try an exciting new category. No and low alcohol wines are getting better in quality all the time and we have hand selected a few that we think are delicious.
Firstly, we have 2 wines from ALT, which was founded by 2 brothers, who launched a dedicated premium non-alcoholic distribution agency in Oslo, Norway. These are both award winning and alcohol free, based on high-quality raw materials, combing traditional methods with innovative technology.
ALT Sparkling Organic Chardonnay, Alcohol Free, NV (Vegan friendly)
Crisp and refreshing sparkler made with 100% Chardonnay grapes harvested from Southern Spain. An enticing floral aroma with green apple and citrus peel character on the palate.
ALT Sparkling Organic Rose, Alcohol free, NV (Vegan friendly)
A fresh and crisp, non-alcoholic sparkling rose wine made with 100% Tempranillo grapes from central Spain. Crisp acidity and strong effervescence with hints of summer berries and watermelon accompanied by and aromatic aroma.
Secondly, we have a pair of wines from iconic Spanish wine producer Torres – Natureo is the result of a long-term research project by Torres who have been at the forefront of high-quality dealcoholised wine production since 2008. After a classic winemaking process in which the grapes are harvested, then fermented. The alcohol is then carefully removed preserving its full aroma and flavour.
Torres Natureo Muscat 0% abv Spain 2021 (Vegan friendly)
Pale lemon yellow in appearance. Delicate floral, white peach and green apple aromas. Soft and lightly effervescent on the palate with an exquisite citrusy finish.
Torres Natureo Syrah 0% abv Spain 2021 (Vegan friendly)
Dark ruby red in appearance. Enticing notes of blackberry and blackcurrant on the nose. Brimming with juicy bramble fruit on the soft, supple palate, with a hint of black pepper spice. The wine is medium bodied.
Finally, here are 2 low alcohol wines, one from Germany and one homegrown in England.
Dr Loosen Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett 8.5%abv Mosel, Germany 2020 (Vegan friendly)
Dr Loosen is one of the Mosel’s great producers, the estate crafts some of the world’s best Rieslings from the most spectacular vineyards, including this Kabinett which is bright, energetic and bursting with fruit and a touch of natural residual sugar. It is elegant and playful with stunning freshness and a crisp lemony finish. Perfect as an aperitif or with green salads or mildly spiced stir fry dishes and Asian cuisine.
Sedlescombe Organic Regent Red 9.5% abv East Sussex, England (Vegan friendly)
Sedlescombe Organic vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in England, nestled in the Sussex countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Originally founded by Roy Cook in 1979, the vineyard has a history of working with the environment and caring for the land. This ethos continues today using organic and biodynamic principles to nourish the land, caring for the vines and bringing sustainability to every aspect of their production. This is a lightly spiced wine with tantalising aromas of pepper and smoked bramble. On the palate, rich dark fruits are balanced with soft tannins. A great match for game birds or lightly spiced dishes.
