Our Top 3 Wine Cocktails to Enjoy This Summer

Our Top 3 Wine Cocktails to Enjoy This Summer

We are celebrating international cocktail day with three of our favourite simple wine cocktails to enjoy in the sunshine and throughout the summer months, whether you are having a party, celebrating a special occasion or just relaxing in the garden.

Strawberry Frosé

Firstly, let’s start with a Frosé, this is simply a frozen rosé, a bit like an elegant slushie for wine lovers, made with 1 x 75ml bottle of a nice dry rosé, 1 punnet of strawberries (250g), 40g caster sugar and the juice of one lemon.

Method: Pour the rosé into a roasting tin or pop into ice cube trays/bags and freeze. Mix your strawberries with the caster sugar and leave to macerate for a couple of hours, whilst you wait for your rose to freeze. The strawberries will then release all their delicious juices. Next blend the frozen rosé, strawberries and the lemon juice altogether and divide between 4 /5 glasses and garnish with a sprig of mint.

French 75

Next we move to a much loved classic which dates back to World War 1 where it was originally created in Paris at the New York Bar and named after the French 75mm light field gun. Barman Harry MacElhone then took it to the next level and international acclaim at Harrys Bar in New York. Our version combines 20ml of lemon juice, 10ml of sugar syrup, 30ml of Slingsby Gin, Jacques Boncouer Brut Champagne, ice and lemon peel.

Method: Add lemon juice, sugar syrup and Slingsby gin into a Boston shaker and fill with ice and shake, shake, shake. Strain into a Champagne flute, top up the glass with Jacques Boncoeur Champagne and garnish with a strip of lemon peel.

Hugo Spritz

This was invested in 2005 by bartender Roland Gruber in the town of Naturno in Northern Italy, near the Austrian border. It quickly gained popularity and has become an essential summer drink throughout Europe. A refreshing and herbaceous Spritz, perfect for a warm summers evening. All you need is Elderflower cordial, Prosecco and Soda water and mint to garnish.

Method: The ratio is 3:2:1; 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Elderflower cordial and 1 part Soda water. Stir gently with a cocktail stirrer and garnish with a sprig of mint.
