La Rioja Alta Viña Alberdi Reserva, Spain 2018
Why we love it...
No Easter celebration would be complete without a beautiful Rioja and this one is superb for drinking this Easter. It's also a great introduction to La Rioja Alta!
The Story of Viña Alberdi
Viña Alberdi 2018 was the only wine created by La Rioja Alta in 2018, and as such all the grapes usually destined for Gran Reservas 890, 904 and Arana as well as Reserva Viña Ardanza, were used in this instead. 100% Tempranillo from the vineyards of Mayorita, Rebollar and Bardal in addition to specific plots of El Palo, Rodezno and Alto de Rey in Labastida were aged for two years in American oak (new barrels for the first year, and four-year-old barrels for the second year). No Graciano, Garnacha or Mazuelo used either, so this is a pure Tempranillo super-Alberdi!
Tastes like...
Classic and attractive aromas of cassis, black cherry as well as black plum intermingle with dill, vanilla, and clove spice. Medium-bodied with ripe, rounded, and ample tannins that are supported by impressive vibrancy and fruit purity of further black fruits with added liquorice spice and gentle shavings of coconut.
