Sumaridge Pinotage, South Africa 2016
South Africa are producing world class wines in their individual style with their own unique grape, Pinotage, which is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, created for the South African climate. If you haven’t tried Pinotage recently, you really should try this, you will be blown away by the complexity, elegance and refinement.
Why we love it...
It's a top Pinotage from a distinct region in South Africa.
The Story of Sumaridge
Sumaridge Wine Estate, proudly owned by the Bellingham-Turner family, is situated between two mountain ranges in the Western Cape’s Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. One of the most beautiful wine estates in the upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Sumaridge has picturesque views of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the unique microclimate in this region; tropical heat during the day and freezing cold at night, the wines here have unprecedented complexity. 12 months in small oak barrels and soft tannins on the finish make for a complex wine.
Tastes like...
Black cherry, cassis and black plum dominant nose. Powerful and structured yet elegant due to the purity of ripe fruit, velvety smooth tannins and balanced oak integration.
