New World
Wine is made across the globe and to keep things simple we often split the regions into 2 categories – ‘Old World’ and ‘New World’. When we refer to ‘New World’ we are talking about those parts of the world where the vine was introduced from Europe, through trade and exploration. E.g Australia, New Zealand, USA, Chile, South Africa, Argentina. The word ‘new’ can be slightly mis-leading as some of these countries have been producing wine for hundreds of years. New World wines are usually named after the grape variety rather than a region. There are less strict rules around production and more experimentation.
