Since its conception in 1963, Zuccardi has been one of Argentina`s pioneering wineries. The estate continues to be so in the safe hands of the third generation with Sebastián Zuccardi, who has inherited the same determination and desire to create world-class wines. Tim Atkin MW, one of the most authoritative critics on South American wines, once described Sebastián as `one of the key players in the Argentinian wine revolution... producing some of their finest wines in the process.` This sentiment has been echoed by many critics as their top wines receive 95+ point scores on a regular basis. Piedra Infinita is their prized vineyard located in the heart of the alluvial plain of the Tunuyán River, Paraje Altamira. For Sebastián, terroir, and sense of place are paramount as he said he doesn`t `strive for perfect wines, but wines that express the place and region` - this philosophy could not be more evident with Piedra Infinita, Supercal, and Gravascal.

It also boasts two-thirds of Argentina's vineyard area. Sitting in the shadow of the Andes, the climate is sunny and dry, and the region receives little rainfall. With an average vineyard height of 1000 metres, altitude is a key factor in Mendoza grape production, as it reduces humidity and the thin air helps the sunlight penetrate and ripen the grapes. Malbec is the undisputed king of Mendoza, producing incredibly expressive wines with deep colour and a dark fruit character, along with a signature violet note. Mendoza holds 80 percent of Argentina's plantings of Malbec and the wines range from fruit-driven everyday styles through to complex, age-worthy wines. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Torrontes and Sauvignon Blanc are also extensively planted across the region.

The high altitude vineyards, some of them reaching 1250 metres, benefit from warm days and cold nights, extending the ripening of the grapes and producing fruit with balanced levels of sugar and acidity. Alluvial, sandy, free draining soils, created by thousands of years of rivers bringing snow-melt down from the Andes, stress the vines, helping produce low yields and richly concentrated fruit. Malbec shines in the Uco Valley, with an inky, deep colour and aromas of black fruit and violet. The extended ripening period helps Chardonnay and Torrontes develop excellent acidity, and Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are also used to produce top-notch wines. A real jewel in Argentina's crown, the Uco Valley's breath-taking landscapes and cherished wines make it the place to travel for wine tourists in the region.

Depending on style, additional aromas can include tobacco, raspberry, bell pepper, and cassis, with some examples exhibiting a violet note. Cabernet Franc vines bear thinner-skinned, earlier-ripening grapes with lower acidity, when compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. France holds the majority of Cabernet Franc plantings, but the grape has expanded across the New World and can be found in Australia, Chile, Argentina and New Zealand.
