Errazuriz Estate Merlot Reserva, 2022

The Aconcagua Valley vineyards are in the northern Chile, close to the Pacific Ocean’s coast, on rolling hills at an altitude of 100 to 300 meters above sea level. Of Mediterranean climate, the valley has moderately warm summer days and fresh evening breezes, which allows the development of intense colors and ripe flavors. In different circumstances, the Curicó Valley confers the grapes for this wine, specially selected for the rainy winters and dry summers that characterize the valley. The vineyard is planted on deep clay-loam soils, typical of Chile’s central region.

A brilliant ruby red color and a combination of aromas of fresh red fruits with herbal and balsamic notes that are characteristic to the variety, all framed with roasted coffee, caramel and pastries coming from the oak. The palate is soft, with flavors of cherries, plums and a subtle note of peppermint. A wine with a good volume and fine tannins, which give a very smooth and pleasant mouthfeel.

It`s perfumed and floral with notes of roses and red fruit and a faint twist of iron. It has structure and a chalky texture, with good depth. It`s long and tasty, with very fine tannins and a bitter twist in the finish. 95/100 points. Luis Gutiérrez, erobertparker.com, August 2021
