La Delfina

La Delfina is produced by The Wine People, a new company set up by Stefano Girelli after he sold his family business, Casa Girelli. Stefano and his winemaker, Stefano Chioccioli, who has been with Stefano for two decades, buy the grapes and make the wine for us. The Montepulciano d`Abruzzo is sourced through some of the old growers he worked with when he had Casa Girelli and it was one of the wines that established that company`s reputation. La Delfina Pinot Grigio is sourced from vineyards near Sicily`s coast giving a style that has much more character than many Veneto Pinot Grigios. The Proseccos are made by The Wine People at a specialist Prosecco producer that Stefano has worked with for nearly thirty years, and who he feels offers the best quality/price ratio on the market.

Veneto

The Italian region of Veneto has a roll call of famous global exports at the heart of its success. Prosecco, Valpolicella, Soave and Amarone are all products enjoyed around the world and their contribution to Italian wine is well documented and significant. Located in the north-east corner of Italy, centred around the city of Verona, Veneto has many important wine producing areas and more than a quarter of the output is sold as high-quality DOC and DOCG wine. Many grape varieties have homes in Veneto, and the region produces the full range of styles, from crisp whites to inky reds and sweet wines like Recioto, an intense dessert wine made from sun-baked shrivelled grapes. In the reds fruity, easy-going Valpolicella contrasts with the intense, dark wines of Amarone, while crisp, linear Pinot Grigio and always favourite sparkling Prosecco, made from the Glera lead the charge for Venetos whites. Other important grape varieties include Garganega, used to produce the sophisticated white Soave wines.

Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio is the Italian name for Pinot Gris. Though the same grape, stylistically Pinot Grigio will often be fresher and lighter than wine labelled Pinot Gris, which will have an oilier, more full-bodied aromatic character. The two styles are so different they are normally thought of as different grapes. Pinot Grigio grapes are often picked early to retain their fresh acidity and are vinified in stainless steel. Best consumed young, they typically have flavours of apple, lemon and blossom.
