Esk Valley winery is situated in the north of New Zealand's picturesque Hawkes Bay region. The winery sources fruit from the the major wine-regions of New Zealand, including Marlborough and the Gimblett Gravels, which consistently produce grapes of an extremely high quality. Esk Valley is a boutique winery, but it is unique in that many of the techniques used to craft its award-winning wines are dictated by the winery itself. The old concrete vats, the layout of the buildings, and the absence of modern technology mean the team at Esk Valley makes wine in a simple, honest, hands-on way.
Made from fruit taken from vines dotted around the Hawke's Bay and fermented in a mixture of stainless tank and wooden barriques, this is impressive Chardonnay with great fruit focus and classic full-bodied character.
This full-bodied Hawke's Bay Pinot Gris, made in an aromatic Alsatian style, utilises hand-picked fruit from a range of vineyard sites. Added richness from barrel fermentation and a splash of residual sugar balance the fresh acidity. Full of orchard fruits and citrus, with a lick of minerality.
Esk Valley has been New Zealand's pioneer of this traditional Portuguese variety, producing a dry-style Verdelho from their Hawke's Bay vineyards since 2002. Packed with peachy tropical fruit and bright citrus. Well worth trying out.
