Barolo
Barolo is affectionately referred to as the ‘King of Wines’ and the ‘Wine of Kings’ because it is one of the great wines of the world. Nebbiolo is the only grape variety permitted in the Barolo DOCG and it is a light coloured, full flavoured red wine with cherry, rose, anise and mineral character with notable high acidity, high tannin that has the ability to improve and soften in the bottle and develop complex leather, mushroom, forest floor and tobacco characters over many years. The region is spread over eleven communes and lies in a horseshoe-shaped valley with steep south facing vineyards which absorb maximum sunshine to ripen the grapes. There are different styles of Barolo depending on the specific terroir and certain sites produce better wines than others.
