In the final turbulent years of the communist regime in Romania, three families invested in a formerly state-run winery, today Cramele Recas is one of, if not the best regarded wine producer in Romania. With ancient vines dating back to 1447 located on the western edge of the Transylvania wine region, it is ideally positioned with a Mediterranean climate, on the same latitude as Bordeaux.
The emphasis here is on quality and innovation achieved by hard work, passion, and a great respect for the terroir. Combining southern and western facing slopes with the influence of the Bega River and shade from the hills of the Western Carpathians, this is ideal wine producing country, allowing Cramele Recas to produce a wide range of both indigenous and internationally recognised grape varieties.
