Founded in 1719 and located in Saint Julien de Concelles (the beating heart of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine production), on the Atlantic coast where the Melon de Bourgogne grape is king producing crisp, clean and luscious wines thanks to extended lees ageing. The estate is now under the watchful eye of Jean-Gilbert Chon, who crafts several small, single-vineyard parcels including Clos de la Chapelle and Clos du Parc, as well as excellent Sauvignon Blanc (Le Haut Clos) and Cabernet Franc (Le Tristan) based-wines at a fraction of the price of nearby regions such as Sancerre and Bourgeuil. Without doubt one of the best in the business!

The quality of Loire wine is often overlooked, but they can offer serious value and are renowned for their classy style and fresh flavours. Starting on the Atlantic Coast in the city of Nantes, the region winds its way 300 miles up the Loire River through green, rural land to the pretty villages of the Upper Loire. The scattered nature of the appellations of the Loire host a wide range of soils and climatic conditions for making wine. The climate is cool, and the wines typically have fresh acidity and clean, pure flavours. Appellations of note include Touraine, Sancerre, Muscadet, Pouilly-Fume and Saumur-Champigny. The Loire's 4000 wineries produce a diverse range of wines across all three colours alongside sparkling Cremant de Loire and golden, sticky sweet wines. Most famously, the Loire is known for white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne and Chenin Blanc, while Cabernet Franc is the Loire's most famous red export.

Depending on style, additional aromas can include tobacco, raspberry, bell pepper, and cassis, with some examples exhibiting a violet note. Cabernet Franc vines bear thinner-skinned, earlier-ripening grapes with lower acidity, when compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. France holds the majority of Cabernet Franc plantings, but the grape has expanded across the New World and can be found in Australia, Chile, Argentina and New Zealand.
