Sangiovese

Sangiovese is a red wine grape variety originating from central Italy. Most famously used made for making the wines bearing the names Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, it also is used to make varietal wines across Italy. Youthful Sangiovese wines will have soft strawberry and a light spiciness, but older, aged wines offer up sour cherries, tar and more complex savoury characteristics. The moderate tannin and high acidity allows for some ageing and the best wines have the capacity to demand high prices.
