Castello Banfi

Castello Banfi

Castello Banfi

(Castello) Banfi was created in 1978 by the Italian American brothers, John, and Harry Mariani, when they acquired the Castello di Poggio alle Mura and surrounding vineyards to the southwest of Montalcino near Sant’Angelo Scalo. The aim was to simply produce the best Brunello di Montalcino possible from their carefully nurtured vineyards and state-of-the-art winery. As a result, the Mariani’s hired one of the greatest Italian winemakers of the time, Ezio Rivella, to turn their dream into reality. Almost half a century later, the estate is still family owned, now in the capable hands of the third generation with Cristina Mariani-May (pictured), as well as her cousin; James Mariani. Cristina became President and CEO in 2018, yet has been involved with the winery since the early 1990s, where from the beginning her mantra has always been `in the pursuit of excellence` driving Banfi to become one of the largest, and most prolific producers in Montalcino.

  1. Medium, luscious red
Giusto di Notri is, without a doubt, Tua Rita`s calling card and the wine that launched the estate in 1984! The 2020 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot blend, which James Sucking declared as `a wine for the future`, awarding it 97 points. This is certainly a wine to put away in any budding Italia... Read more

  5. Medium, luscious red
`Col di Sasso` translates as the `stony hill` in reference to the rocky slopes of the vineyard in the southern part of Tuscany. We lovingly refer to it as a `baby Super-Tuscan` blend, due to its Cabernet Sauvignon predominance that imparts bold flavour and body, and touch of Sangiovese that provides structure and intense fruit.... 10. Medium, luscious red
`La lus` means light in the local Piemontese dialect, a reference to the wine’s grape variety; Albarosso. A relatively new grape variety, which is a crossing of Nebbiolo and Barbera. Castello Banfi are only one of four producers making Albarosso in Piedmont, and this is the ultimate expression of this new adventure.... Read more
