Chateau Ausone
Chateau Ausone
One of only four Saint-Emilion chateaux to be granted Premier Grande Cru Classe A status, alongside heavyweights Pavie, Angelus and Cheval Blanc, Chateau Ausone is one of the best-regarded properties in Bordeaux. Named after a fourth-century Roman poet who had extensive land holdings across the region, Ausone is small by Bordeaux standards, at just seven hectares, and is planted predominantly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The last twenty years have been halcyon ones for the estate, with a consistent run of excellent wine and very high scores, including a 100 point score from Robert Parker for the 2000 vintage.
