As the name would suggest, this eight-hectare Pomerol vineyard is planted on a bed of very fine gravelly soils which give the wines a steely freshness and purity. Under the custodianship of Jean-Marie Bouldy, Chateau Bellegrave produces just the one wine, from a plot planted to 75 percent Merlot and 25 percent Cabernet Franc. The wines are highly appealing and true to type for this remarkable appellation. full of crunchy red fruit with toasty spice developing a savoury green herb and earthy character as bottle maturation takes hold.
