Chateau Capbern
Chateau Capbern
Known as Chateau Capbern-Gasqueton until 2012, this sister property of Calon-Segur lost the back half of its name following its acquisition by French insurers Suravenir in 2012. The estate had previously been in the hands of Madame Denise Gasqueton who died in 2011 aged 87 and the new owners have quickly set out to improve the quality of the output at Capbern. Recent vintages of the dark, purple-fruited wine have been declared some of the estate’s finest. Planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small parcel of Petit Verdot, Chateau Capbern is a prime example of a Cru Bourgeois property that punches well above its weight and offers superb Saint-Estephe value.
