Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of the stars of Pauillac`s Fifth Growth chateaux. During the Middle Ages the terrain formed part of a larger estate belonging to Monsieur de Guiraud, and was passed down through his family until the end of the 19th century. The first vines appeared in the mid-18th century when some of the land was bought by Pierre Ducasse. Wars and recession brought a change of fortunes for Puy-Lacoste and by the 1960s it was badly ailing. Rejuvenation came in 1978 at the hands of Jean-Eugene Borie. The extensive remodelling and modernistion Jean started continues today under his son Francois-Xavier. The quality has been very high in recent vintages and this chateau is quintessential Pauillac. powerful, punchy and deeply satisfying.
