Chateau Montlandrie

Chateau Montlandrie

Chateau Montlandrie

Spend a bit of time in the Bordeaux wine scene and it won’t be long until you hear Denis Durantou`s name pop up in conversation with a vigneron or negociant. The owner of fabled l‘Eglise-Clinet in Pomerol and Saint-Emilion’s Saintayme, amongst others, is one of Bordeaux’ most enigmatic wine personalities and his wines are some of the region’s most highly regarded. Durantou bought Chateau Montlandrie in 2009, and has swiftly increased the property’s reputation by delivering consistently excellent Merlot-based wines from the 12-hectare vineyard, with full, opulent fruit, heady spice and fine tannin. One to watch, and one to buy.

  1. Rich, powerful red
75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Mega-ripe nose of black cherry, autumn berries and cassis. Great freshness and balance on the palate wrapped around a juicy core of bramble and cherry fruit with added loganberries. Very good indeed. JG. Tasted at Chateau L’Eglise Clinet (April 2019). Drink 2024-2035.... Read more

  2. Rich, powerful red
This has a more broody bouquet than the two Lalande-de-Pomerols, just a touch of leafiness originating from the Cabernet Sauvignon that enhances the complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure, more saline than the Les Cruzelles, backward at the moment, but the Cabernets impart some lovely graphite notes on the s... Read more

  3. Rich, powerful red
This is a small 9-hectare property in the Cotes de Castillon, owned by Denis Durantou from l’Eglise-Clinet in Pomerol. Abundant red and black cherry fruits with some smoky oak. Good, round ripe structure with black fruits and a damson core that makes it slightly meaty in style. Oozing with black cherries and brambles on a gene... Read more
