Chateau Prieure-Lichine
Chateau Prieure-Lichine
Chateau Prieure-Lichine, previously Chateau La Prieure and Chateau Prieure-Cantenac, is a winery in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, in the commune of Cantenac. The wine produced here was classified as one of 10 Quatriemes Crus (Fourth Growths) in the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The chateau was in the Lichine family for half a century and is now in the safe hands of the Ballande Group. The vineyards are made up of gravelly soils from the River Gironde during the successive glacial floods. This soil is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon as it performs best on gravelly, well drained soils. Merlot and Petit Verdot are also in the mix of grapes grown here.
