Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte
Former Olympic skiers Daniel and Florence Cathiard transformed this property in the early 1990`s, and have been making decadent, modern, sexy wines here since then. The wines typically combine flavours of classic, earthy Graves and silky, seductive new oak. 67 hectares are under vine, and the estate produces a barrel fermented white wine made from Sauvignons Blanc and Gris, and a classic Bordeaux red Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, in varying ratios. While not officially organic, many of the estate`s practices operate under that philosophy. Expect aromatic, toasty, full-flavoured white wines and structured, deeply flavoured reds that appreciate medium-long term cellaring.
