Since 2007, Domaine Faiveley has been under the guidance of Bernard Hervet. The 115 hectare domaine is split between an estate of 78 hectares in Mercurey and 37 hectares in the Cote d’Or and is now one of the largest domaines in Burgundy. The vineyards are run with tight precision and nothing is left to chance through a controlled vineyard management program. Their aim for elegance and finesse is now being rewarded and each wine possesses an individual character and quality that is a great reflection of the domaine`s terroir.

Spanning 26,000 hectares of vineyards and over 3,000 individual producers across nearly 100 different appellations, unlocking the mysteries of Burgundy for your drinking enjoyment can require a sense of adventure, but getting to know a few villages and their style is a good way to start the journey. Burgundy is broken into six distinct areas. Just south of Dijon, the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits make up the larger Cote d'Or, considered the beating heart of Burgundian production and the focus of the fine wine world. Vineyards are divided into tiny parcels, and some growers may only own a row or less of vines in the most esteemed sites. Chablis, in the north, is famous for its crisp whites, while south of the Cote d'Or Cote Chalonnaise and Maconnais offer great value. Propping up the Burgundy map is the large region of Beaujolais, the place to uncover juicy, fruity, unoaked Gamay wines. For our Fine Wine Burgundy selection go to Fine Wine where you can choose from a top wine selection from the renowned villages of Puligny Montrachet, Meursault, Nuit St Georges, Gevrey Chambertin, and many more top Burgundian appellations.
View more wines from this regionNamed for the primary town in the area, Beaune, the Cote de Beaune is an important wine-producing area in Burgundy, France. As part of the larger Cote d'Or region, along with Cote de Nuits, the best wines of the Cote de Beaune are amongst the finest in the world, with prices to match. The Cotes d'Or escarpment is the region's spine, and the best vineyards lie on the slopes, with limestone-rich soils. Vineyard class and status is determined by the quality of these soils, based on over 100 years of classifications. The area has a continental climate, with warm days and very cool nights, and there is a danger of springtime frosts and hail damage - in 2013 70 percent of the crop was lost. Well known appellations in the Cote de Beaune include Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay and Corton and there several Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards across the region. Outside of these smaller, premium growing areas, many vineyard sites have the regional Bourgogne appellation applied to them.
View more wines from this sub regionA small village whose economy is almost entirely reliant on wine and viticulture, Monthelie is an appellation located in the Cote de Beaune region of Burgundy. With a village population of just 200, the appellation produces 65,000 bottles of wine every year from roughly 120 hectares of vineyards, the bulk of which are devoted to Pinot Noir. Monthelie has 15 climats designated Premier Cru, mainly clustered around its border with neighbouring Volnay. Like all of the best sites in Burgundy the fine limestone-clay soils and southerly aspects provide optimum growing conditions and define the quality of the fruit. Monthelie's Pinot Noir is thought of as feminine in nature, with soft red and black fruits giving way to velvety tannin and lingering floral notes and spice. Bottle age allows the tannin to soften and savoury notes to emerge. If you can find them, the Chardonnay wines of Monthelie are similar to those of neighbouring Meursault with a full, opulent character and flavours of citrus, hazelnut and honeysuckle.

It is also one of the major blending grapes for Champagne. While the wines from the old world and new are undeniably different, Pinot Noir is a very distinctive variety and its wines reveal soft strawberry and cherry flavours with a heady aroma and often complex savoury characteristics when the grapes are placed in the right hands.
