John Vickery is widely regarded as the `godfather of Australian Riesling` and is one of, if not, Australia’s greatest Riesling producers and an inspiration to those who have followed in his footsteps. Vickery started making Riesling during the 1950s, at a time when Australia was predominantly making fortified wines, quickly recognising the potential of both Clare Valley (Watervale) and Eden Valley as sites to craft high quality wines that expressed a real sense of place, purity, and longevity. In 2023, Vickery retired and Keeda Zilm took over the reins and is now, in her words, `the proud custodian of John’s philosophy, style, and technique.` We’ll raise a glass to that!
