Niederosterreich

Niederosterreich

Niederosterreich

Translating as 'Lower Austria', Niederosterreich is the largest wine-growing area in Austria and encompasses eight different growing regions, producing about half of the country's total output. It includes some of Austria's best-known regions including Kamptal, Kremstal and Wachau. The region is planted with a diverse range of grapes, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and St. Laurent, but Gruner Veltliner and Riesling dominate the vineyards. As expected with such a dynamic region, the topography is diverse, but the climate is reasonably consistent, with long warm summer days tempered with cool nights during the growing season which helps the grapes develop full flavour while retaining all-important acidity.
