Rully

Located in the northern area of the Cote Chalonnaise region of Burgundy, the commune of Rully produces wines from both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The village sits underneath the eastern side of a limestone-rich ridge whose northern tip is five kilometres from the famous appellation of Chassagne-Montrachet in the Cote de Beaune. The best vineyards have soils rich in free-draining limestone with a moisture-retaining clay base, along with an easterly aspect that exposes the grapes to the morning sun. Rully Chardonnay is typically clean and flinty with peach, citrus and white flowers developing notes of honey and dried fruit with time. Pinot Noirs will be fleshy and spicy, with cherries and blackberries sitting nicely alongside fine tannins. Rully has also developed a reputation for the quality of its Cremant de Bourgogne sparkling wines. While not as prestigious as the prized vineyards to the north Rully shares many of the same traits that make these vineyards famous. As a result it offers value and quality in spades.
