Beaumes-de-Venise
Beaumes-de-Venise
A parish in the southern Rhone valley, Beaumes-de-Venise is an appellation title for the ever popular full-bodied red wines produced in around the village. More well known are the appellation's sweet wines, made since the 14th century and given the appellation title Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. East of Vacqueyras and south of Gigondas, the sweet Muscat-based wines are made by adding grape spirit to arrest the fermentation and retain the high levels of natural sugar. Pale gold when young, they develop rich honeyed notes with flavours of stewed tropical fruit and a delicate nutty character.
