Crozes-Hermitage
Crozes-Hermitage
A large appellation of the northern Rhone, Crozes-Hermitage surrounds the more prestigious, smaller appellation of Hermitage on the eastern side of the Rhone River. Mainly producing red wine made from Syrah, ten percent of the output is dedicated to white wines made from Roussanne and Marsanne. Interestingly, these white grapes are also used as a minor component in some of the red wines, adding fragrance and structure. While not as complex as the wines for Hermitage, thanks to the more fertile soils, Crozes-Hermitage wines typically exhibit a bright fruit character and notes of pepper and spice. Excellent everyday value typifies the wines of Crozes-Hermitage, with their exuberant nature and easy-drinking quality.
