With nine Grand Cru and 26 Premier Cru vineyards, the position of Gevrey-Chambertin among the world's great wine producing regions cannot be underestimated. In 1847 Gevrey, as it was then known, was the first to add the title of its most regarded vineyard to its village name. This trend now stretches to 11 other villages in the Cote d'Or, Puligny-Montrachet and Vosne-Romanee among them. A broad appellation, Gevrey-Chambertin is located in the north of the Cote de Nuits region, and its best vineyards fan out up and away from the village, reaching heights of 380 metres.
While celebrated for its Grand Cru wines, demand has put these out of reach of most, and the quality and consistency of Gevrey-Chambertin's Premier Cru and Villages status wines is exceptional. Big, bold and muscular, Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir is the most full-bodied, concentrated wine in Burgundy. The deeply fruited, floral flavours of youth give way to a wine of immense finesse and velvety tannin when aged, and the best examples will mture gracefully for many decades.
