Morey-Saint-Denis
Morey-Saint-Denis
Located in the northern section of the Cote de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis is a small appellation sandwiched between the prized communes of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. Home to 20 tiny Premier Cru and five Grand Cru climats, the appellation spans 110 hectares of vineyards, with all but five hectares dedicated to Pinot Noir. Incredibly pure clay-limestone soils, a pitch-perfect slope and altitudes of 220-270 metres combine to make this a grape grower's paradise. Masculine wines, as one expects from the Cote de Nuits, are found in Morey-Saint-Denis, with a deeply intense colour. Black and red fruits light up the nose and complex notes of violet, liquorice and bramble are found amongst the layered palate. Suitable for long ageing, the wines develop gamey, earthy notes as they mature, softening and becoming ever richer.
