Canon-Fronsac
Canon-Fronsac
Bordered by the Dordogne River to the south, and close to the town of Libourne, Canon-Fronsac is a historic Bordeaux region that holds a great deal of respect amongst Bordeaux's wine industry. Like Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, Canon-Fronsac is part of the Libournais wine district. Grapes used are typically Right Bank, and Merlot and Cabernet Franc are primarily used alongside some Malbec and a very small quantity of Cabernet-Sauvignon. Vines planted further away from the river on the higher ground tend to produce better quality grapes, and due to its cooler climate in the hottest years Canon-Fronsac can often deliver greater balanced wines than the more prestigious regions of Bordeaux.
