South of Sacramento in California, the tiny Clarksburg AVA has a reputation for producing excellent quality wines from its mostly flat terrain and the nutrient-heavy free-draining soils help craft richly fruited grapes. Clarksburg is renowned for the impressive range of grapes it produces, most notably honeyed, rich Chenin Blanc, along with large quantities of Chardonnay. Completing the viticultural melting pot of varieties that Clarksburg produces are Viognier, Albarino and Verdelho alongside plots of Pinot Gris.
