Chateau Canon, Saint-Emilion

There are moments of magic in my job, some I rarely get the chance to share, however, here, now in the middle of our 2015 En Primeur campaign I share this moment.

Delving through the mountain of analysis, charts, tasting notes, endless paperwork and brochures collected from our recent 2015 En Primeur tastings back in April; I happened upon a small blue unassuming book entitled “I Should Have Known”. Intrigued I turned to the first page and was transported.

There are so many things we sometimes take for granted. How quick we are to judge a wine, lest we forget how many lives that wine has touched before it has even reached a bottle.

It is with my great pleasure that we publish “I should have known” by Maître de Chai, Stéphane Bonnasse at Château Canon. If you have a spare moment it's well worth the read, I challenge you not to be touched by this very personal account of the 2015 vintage.  One of the leading 1er Grand Cru Classe, St Emilion properties, Château Canon is owned by Chanel, since 1996. From humble beginnings when Jacques Kanon in 1870 acquired the estate, little did he know that 250 years later the Chateau would be world-famous for its wine and ranked amongst the famous of Crus. Over the course of history the K was changed to a C, a clairvoyant move, given that the Château is now owned by the brand with the double C! Interestingly, one bottle of Chateau Canon is opened every 6 minutes 57 seconds somewhere in the world…..

My sincere thanks to Château Canon for allowing us to publish this account and further open the door into the wonderful world of wine.
