Whatever you are doing this Easter holiday, make sure you have the wines to match every occasion. Here is our guide to get you through Easter and beyond.
Superb Sparkling
A great place to start is with a superb sparkling to kick off the celebrations. We cannot recommend our house Champagne highly enough. It has achieved bags of accolades and recommendations from celebrated wine critics, and has recently gained fully sustainable certification. However, don’t take our word for it, try it yourself, you are sure to be impressed! Jacques Boncoeur Brut Champagne NV is a perfect aperitif sparkler and pairs exceptionally well with canapes and little nibbles. A great staple to have in your fridge over the holiday.
Fish Supper
If you follow the tradition of eating fish on Good Friday, or even if you do not, our top wine to pair with a classic fish supper would be Lagar de Cervera Albarino, Rias Baixas, Spain 2021. Bright, vibrant aromas of apple, pear, lemon, and white flowers fill the glass. Impressive body and creamy texture on the palate underpinned by uplifting, zippy acidity that provides tension and backbone to the wine. Similar green and citrus fruit fuse with added peach, apricot and pineapple lead into a long, mineral-driven finish with a touch of quince spice.
Alfresco Dining
We never quite know where the weather will take us at Easter but we remain optimistic and hope there will be some al fresco dining involved. Our top recommendation for outside eating is Kumeu River Village Pinot Noir, Auckland, New Zealand 2020. Although well-known for their Chardonnay, Kumeu River also produce excellent Pinot Noir. Lifted aromas and flavours of red cherry, rose petal and a savoury-umami edge on the long finish seals the deal. This is such a versatile wine and would go well with all sorts of duck dishes as well as Barbeque pork ribs, Salmon and mushrooms.
Fabulous Feast
Easter would not be complete without a traditional Spring lamb roast, whether you stud it with garlic, rosemary and anchovy or smother it with herbs or spices, it would be a heavenly match with La Rioja Alta, Vina Alberdi Reserva, Spain 2018. Classic and attractive aromas of cassis, black cherry as well as black plum intermingle with dill, vanilla, and clove spice. Medium-bodied with ripe, rounded, and ample tannins that are supported by impressive vibrancy and fruit purity of further black fruits with added liquorice spice and gentle shavings of coconut. Sweet Treats
Whether you're hunting for the ultimate dessert pairing or just in the mood for a sweet treat at the end of Easter Lunch we have something brand new and a bit leftfield to hit the spot; Brannland Iscider, Uppsala, Sweden 2021. New in and selling fast, an award-winning ice cider made from apples in Northern Sweden; think Tarte Tatin, caramel and almonds underpinned by bright acidity and a wonderfully balanced finish. Perfect with Simnel cake or a sweet treat.
New Season Rosé
It’s that time of year when the new vintage of Rosé starts to land and we all get very excited. Our top pick of the new arrivals is Chateau Puech-Haut Argali Rosé, France 2022. Attractive aromas of strawberry and red cherry fuse with added peach and apricot with a hint of grapefruit. Generous and rounded thanks to it`s luscious, creamy texture whilst remaining well-balanced thanks to an uplifting acidity that provides tension, precision and focus. Further summer berry and white stone fruit with tropical undertones and a delicate touch of white pepper seals the deal. A lovely pairing for lighter Spring dishes, cheese and charcuterie.
Wishing you a wonderful Easter from The Bon Coeur Team.
